Connect Zalo OA and a personal Zalo account

Not verified live: this guide has not been followed end to end against the live provider.

You connect Zalo in one of two ways. A Zalo Official Account (OA) is the official channel for a business. A personal Zalo account is a person’s own account, linked with a QR code.

Who: an admin connects an Official Account or a shared personal account. A team member links their own account. Permission: channels.manage.

Before you start

  • For an Official Account, have your OA id, app id, access token and OA secret from the Zalo Official Account console. Zalo issues them, and Yedran does not.
  • For a personal account, have the phone with the Zalo app signed in to that account.
  • Know which workspace the channel serves. The channel answers from that workspace’s knowledge base, so the workspace needs one. The console says Create this workspace’s knowledge base first. when it has none.
  • Plan to pay Zalo’s own charges directly. Your business contracts the Official Account with Zalo, and Zalo invoices you. Your Yedran subscription covers Lucía, not the channel’s platform fees.
  • For a personal account, plan the proxy first if you want one. See the proxy section later in this guide.

Connect a Zalo Official Account

  1. To open the channel list, select System in the sidebar, then the Channels tab. If you don’t see System, open the account menu, select Organisation, then the Channels tab. You see one card per channel type.
  2. On the Zalo OA card, select Connect. The Connect channel dialog opens on the Official Account form.
  3. In Workspace, check the workspace the channel serves.
  4. In Channel name, type a label for your inbox.
  5. Under Official Account, fill in OA id and App id. The console says both are public identifiers, not secrets.
  6. Under Credentials, fill in Access token and OA secret. Leave Refresh token empty if you do not have one; the console says it is optional until the first token refresh.
  7. Optionally, change Default language. It offers Vietnamese, Spanish and English.
  8. Select Connect. The dialog shows the channel name with “created”, then checks the connection. It reports Connection verified — the channel is reachable. or a warning that the channel could not be verified yet.
  9. Select Done. The channel appears as a card. A freshly connected channel starts disabled, so select Enable on its card.
  10. To confirm the connection, select Test on the card. The console reads Connection successful when it can reach the Official Account.

If the warning says the channel could not be verified, select Configure and check the credentials. The warning tells you that you can retry from the channel card.

To connect a personal account for the workspace, use the Zalo (personal) card. This is an unofficial session, not an official Zalo API.

  1. Select System in the sidebar, then the Channels tab, and select Connect on the Zalo (personal) card.
  2. Check Workspace, then type a Channel name. The Link with QR button stays unavailable until both are set.
  3. Optionally, set a proxy before the scan. See the proxy section later in this guide.
  4. Select Link with QR. The console shows Preparing the QR…, then the QR code.
  5. On the phone, open Zalo, then Settings and Scan QR, and scan the code. The console shows the text “Linked as” followed by your account name, and says the channel is on and listening.
  6. Close the dialog. The channel appears as a card in the channel list.

If the console says The QR expired or the scan was rejected. Start a new one., select the button to start another QR code and scan again.

To link your own account, use the My account page. Your account never replies to customers by itself.

  1. Open the account menu, select My account, and find the My channels section.
  2. Under Personal Zalo, select Link with QR and scan the code with the Zalo app on your phone. The console shows the text “Linked as” followed by your name.
  3. In Lucía on this account, choose the mode. Lucía is silent means Lucía does nothing on your account. Lucía drafts means Lucía writes a draft that you read and send yourself.
  4. After linking, a Contacts section appears. Select Sync to fetch your Zalo friend list, tick the contacts you want, then select Import selected.

If you see Your organisation does not allow this kind of account., an admin must allow it first. An admin with the right permission sees the link Enable it under Organisation, Personal accounts. Others see Ask your organisation’s admin to enable it.

To allow personal Zalo accounts, an admin opens the account menu, selects Organisation, then the Personal accounts tab. Under Allowed kinds, tick Personal Zalo. Under Mode for a newly connected account, choose Lucía is silent or Lucía drafts, then select Save policy. Each person can change the mode for their own accounts.

Use a proxy for a personal account

A personal Zalo account connects from the server’s own address unless you give it a proxy. Zalo may block an address outside Vietnam.

  • In the Proxy section of the admin form, the console advises one Vietnamese residential or 4G proxy per account, with a sticky address, set before the first QR scan. It stores the address sealed and never shows it again.
  • Type the proxy in the form socks5://user:password@host:port. Yedran accepts http, https, socks5 and socks5h addresses. The host must be a public address, and the console shows the server’s refusal otherwise.
  • Select Test proxy to see the exit address, country and organisation. The console warns when the country is not Vietnam.
  • Select Save to keep the proxy, or Clear to remove it. Saving or clearing reconnects the account from its stored session, so you scan the QR code only once.
  • For a channel you are creating, the address you type is saved when you select Link with QR, so the first scan goes through it.
  • With no proxy, the console warns that the account connects from the server’s address, outside Vietnam, and that Zalo may block it.
  • The My account page has no proxy field. An admin sets a proxy from the channel form under System > Channels.

Result

To check that a Zalo channel works, send it a message and open the inbox.

  • For an Official Account, send a message to your Official Account on Zalo. For a personal account, send a message to the linked account from another Zalo user.
  • The message appears as a conversation in the workspace. On an Official Account, Lucía answers according to her mode. See Choose how much Lucía does and How Lucía decides.
  • On the card, the status reads Active and the last message time appears under Last message:.

What Lucía does on a personal account

A personal account is never autonomous. Yedran refuses an autonomous personal account when it is created and on every change.

  • With Lucía is silent, Lucía stays out of the conversation and your team replies.
  • With Lucía drafts, Lucía prepares a draft and a person sends it. See Handle a handover.
  • The console states that the session can be logged out or blocked by Zalo at any time, and that Yedran cannot prevent that. Plan for the account going quiet.
  • Zalo blocks a personal account after about twenty distinct recipients in ten minutes, without saying so. Yedran stops sending to further recipients once fifteen distinct people have been contacted within ten minutes. A held-back message is marked failed with the reason zalo_personal_recipient_throttled.

The Official Account reply window

An Official Account can reply freely for 48 hours after the customer’s last message. When the window is closed, Yedran does not send the reply. Lucía hands the conversation over, and the handover reason reads Messaging window closed.

  • To message a customer first, Zalo only allows an approved ZNS template. You create and approve templates in Zalo’s console. The console lists them in a Message templates dialog, and links to Zalo’s console with Manage templates in Zalo’s console.
  • A personal account has no reply window.

Limits

  • A personal account is an unofficial session. Zalo can log it out or ban it, and the proxy does not prevent that.
  • A Zalo Official Account sends messages to Yedran through a signed webhook. The OA secret lets Yedran check each request’s signature. This guide does not cover how to register that webhook inside Zalo’s console.
  • Linking a personal account through the My account page never gives Lucía the right to reply by herself.
  • A channel serves one workspace. A channel moves to another workspace only with the workspace split tool, run by your platform operator.
  • If your organisation’s trial or subscription ends unpaid, Lucía hands conversations over and only owners can sign in. See The 30-day trial and what happens when it ends.
